Bequests
This is the most popular planned giving option as there is no limit on the amount of an estate tax deduction and you will preserve your assets during your lifetime. You and your lawyer can discuss the following types of bequests:
Specific: Allocate a set dollar amount to Cristo Rey Jesuit.
Sample language: “I bequeath the sum of $__________ to Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Inc. Baltimore, Maryland for its general purposes.”
Residual: Designate Cristo Rey Jesuit to receive all or a portion of your remaining estate after all specific bequests are made.
Sample language: “I bequeath my residuary estate to Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland for its general purposes.”
Contingent: Make Cristo Rey Jesuit the beneficiary contingent on factors that you outline in your will.
Sample language: "If none of my descendants are living at the time of my death, I give my residuary estate to Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland, for its general purposes."
Retirement plan/Life insurance policy
Avoid income tax on retirement plan assets by naming Cristo Rey Jesuit as the beneficiary of your retirement plan. Receive a charitable deduction by donating your paid life insurance policy to Cristo Rey Jesuit or name the school as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
Charitable remainder trust
Receive a charitable deduction and retain income by setting up an irrevocable trust and naming Cristo Rey Jesuit High School as the trustee. The school will then provide you with earnings from the interest for the length of the agreement at which time the principal goes to the school to prepare Baltimore City students for success in college, work and life.
Charitable lead trust
Reduce estate taxes by setting up a lead trust. Cristo Rey Jesuit will receive payments from the interest for the length of the agreement at which time the principal will be transferred to your heirs.
Real estate
Avoid a capital gains tax and receive an income tax deduction by making a gift of real estate.
