Overview
Note: All volunteers must complete an application form and a permission form for Cristo Rey Jesuit to conduct a background check for the safety of our students. Volunteers also must participate in STAND Training so that the school community can create and maintain a safe environment for our students.
Cristo Rey Jesuit seeks volunteers to assist in the following areas:
Math and Science Academic Support
Volunteers are needed to provide academic support to students in the following subjects: Algebra 1, 2 & 3, Pre-calculus, Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science. Volunteers will assist teachers coaching students for an hour after school or may be asked to work separately with one or more students during this hour. Approximately 10 volunteers in math and science will be needed each day. Hours: From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (M, T, Th, F). Volunteers should commit to one or more days per week.
Writing Tutoring
There is an opportunity for service learning students from partnering universities to assist in the Writing Laboratory. The ideal background for this is a major in English or writing, or enrollment in a service learning writing class. The minimum background is junior standing in college and facility with Microsoft Word. Tutors would be working with 1-2 students for at least 1-2 hours every week, during the writing coach class. There are also opportunities for tutors to help during the school day in writing lab classes.

Humanities
Volunteers are needed to help students with critical reading, thinking and writing for the humanities.

Drivers for Student Community Service
The Community Service Program at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School needs help transporting Cristo Rey students to and from their community service sites on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
In addition to driving, the volunteer will be able to interact with Cristo Rey Jesuit students and with people in the community that are being served. Volunteers will drive a 14-passenger van owned by the school. A good driving record, verified by a report from the State Department of Motor Vehicles, is required, but a commercial vehicle or bus license is NOT required.
Hours: Mondays or Tuesdays, 4-6:30 p.m.; Thursdays, 5-7:30 p.m.
Athletic Assistance
In the fall, girls' and boys' soccer and cross country need assistant coaches. In the winter, volunteers are needed to serve as assistant coaches for boys' and girls' basketball. In the spring, volunteers are needed to serve as assistant coaches for boys' lacrosse, girls' softball, and boys' baseball.
Hours: 3:30-5:30 p.m. daily. Volunteers are asked to commit to aat least two days per week.
Library Assistants
Volunteers are needed to help with library administrative tasks, including shelving and processing books, data entry, etc.
Times: Anytime from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily
School Nurse
Registered Nurse volunteers are needed to substitute for the regular school nurse when she is away.
Hours may vary, but are confined to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Assistant Choir Director
The school choir needs volunteers to assist with all aspects of the school choral program. Experience playing the piano, guitar, or drums would be greatly appreciated, but is not required.
Hours: Fridays, 3:15-4:30 p.m.
Ceramics Assistant
The Art Teacher needs assistance with the Ceramics Club. Experience in ceramics is helpful.
Hours: Thursdays, 3:30-5 p.m.
How to Apply
Volunteers from the community are required to complete the following volunteer application form.
Please return the form to Ms. Dawn Strickland. After the form is submitted, an on-line background check will be conducted. If the applicant passes the background check, the applicant is notified and must attend a training session for adults working with children.
All volunteers (parent volunteers and community volunteers) must successfully complete a criminal background check and attend a mandatory STAND training before they may volunteer at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.
