CRISTO REY JESUIT CLASS OF 2022 SECURES 100% COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE

Baltimore, MD, February 23, 2022– Cristo Rey Jesuit High School (CRJ) is proud to announce that as of February 17, 2022 every one of the 78 members of the Class of 2022 has received acceptance into either a 4-year or 2-year college or university.  This achievement marks the twelfth consecutive year since inception that 100% of the graduating seniors from CRJ have been accepted to college. As a College-preparatory institution, Cristo Rey Jesuit believes that every student should graduate ready to pursue higher education in preparation for careers in the workforce.  The Cristo Rey mission combines academic rigor, faith-based learning, and real-world work experience to prepare students for life in college and career.

The Class of 2022 overcame a wide array of adversity and challenges, with almost half of their high school careers adapting to changes brought on by COVID-19 pandemic.  Yet, with the continued support of faculty, staff, and family, this senior class was successful in overcoming these hurdles to earn acceptance into colleges and universities across the country.  Principal Walter Reap noted, “I have noticed how focused this class has been since the doors re-opened to in-person learning after almost two years of working virtually. While these students missed many of the school traditions they have never relented on exceeding academic expectations as a class.”

In addition to a team of committed academic faculty, Cristo Rey Jesuit students work with a team of three College Counselors from the freshman year through high school graduation.  After graduation Cristo Rey’s Alumni Support Counselor works with CRJ in college to support our goal of “to and through” college.  The College Counseling team is crucial to the success of students, not only as they apply to colleges, but also as they journey throughout their collegiate years.  Led by Millie Harris, the team works with students one-on -one, guiding them through the application process, financial aid applications, as well as interview preparation.  They also organize a variety of college visits to the Cristo Rey campus, providing the CRJ scholars with exposure to select colleges that appeal to their individualized future goals.  Ms. Harris stated, “We begin working with students early in their junior year to identify key interests and qualities in themselves and prospective colleges. Once students enter senior year, we have an intentional hands-on approach to college counseling where we coach our students through every step of the college application process.  We push, praise, and pull our students through the process.”

The Class of 2022 continues to represent all that Cristo Rey Jesuit stands for.  As they continue in their last semester at Cristo Rey, they continue to strive and motivate each other, inspiring the classes below them.  This milestone is a source of pride for all of our scholars and demonstrates the commitment to education that each of our scholars possess.  To learn more about Cristo Rey Jesuit’s mission and commitment to academic excellence, please visit https://www.cristoreybalt.org/about/.
