Baltimore, Md., February 11, 2020 - Marcela ‘20 is a senior in high school, but this past Tuesday morning, she was leading a morning meeting for the HR Department at Allegis Group. Marcela is one of two Cristo Rey Jesuit student interns who work every week at the company’s Hanover headquarters.

Allegis Group provides both mentoring and experiential work experience for the high school students they hire, and it makes an impact on the students who work there. “They actually put you to work,” shared Marcela ‘20 who added “you’re an actual part of their team.”

The Allegis Group Foundation sponsors a total of six CRJ internships: two at its offices and four at local nonprofits. Their support makes it possible for CRJ interns to earn the bulk of their tuition throughout the school year through a nationally used model that provides access to a private education for students whose families would not otherwise be able to afford it.

Tracy Haggerty, a member of the Allegis team who supervises Cristo Rey student interns, described Marcela ‘20 as goal oriented and passionate, demonstrating at her internship that she is a fast learner with a thirst for knowledge. Mark Hobbs, also of Allegis Group, shared in a recent evaluation that their team has plans to continue to challenge CRJ student interns as a part of their learning experience.

For Marcela ‘20, being an intern has been an important component of her education. She said, “I’m proud that I’ve had an open mind each year and that I’ve been able to look for new things to learn about at each job.”

Next year, Marcela has plans to go to college, study criminal justice, and pursue additional internship opportunities. “Before, I never really thought too much into my future, but because of Cristo Rey,  I know how to plan for it.”
